European year of older peopleHazel Heath has been an Independent Nurse Consultant for over 20 years, undertaking work for the Department of Health, Royal College of Nursing, British Geriatrics Society, Help the Aged and several universities. She has undertaken consultancy work around the UK, in Ireland, in Canada and across Europe.

A seasoned campaigner for improving care for older people, she has given evidence to the House of Commons Select Committee on long-term care and many government consultations.  As a Consultant to the Department of Health, she also created the tool which determined NHS funding for long-term care in England.

Her work has encompassed clinical practice, education, research and national policy development.  She has worked in publishing as a journal editor, author and reporter.  She has been on the editorial board of a range of journals including the International Journal of Older People Nursing and the Journal of Dementia Care and contributes as reviewer for a range of UK and international journals. Her own work is widely published. She has written many articles, papers and guidance documents and has edited six textbooks.  She has also presented at conferences around UK and internationally.

Her acclaimed PhD work focuses on the outcomes of the work of Registered Nurses and Care Assistants in UK care homes
